5 Scary Fashion Trends--Revisited

Why...oh WHY are there hideous fashion trends that for some inexplicable reason come back around again. As if one season with these heinous crimes against fashion aren't enough! Here are my Top 5 Fashion Nightmares that won't go away.

5. Skinny Jeans: Look, these pants are ridiculous. Just the idea is silly. You may as well just put on a pair of tights and pretend they're pants. It's the same difference. They can only look good on stick thin models. To be honest they don't even look good on them. If you have even 1 ounce of fat on your body they cut a horrid figure on anyone. These should go away forever.

4. Stirrup Pants: First of all....stirrups go on a horse...not a person. These were around in the late '80's early '90's and had gratefully vanished...until recently. They have reared their ugly head again. These pants have the exact opposite effect of the skinny pants...and they are equally horrifying. The idea is that they hook around the base of your foot and pull the pant pin straight. Let's be honest....they make your legs look like tree trunks. Oh..now that's a great look. They aren't slimming...they are awful.

3. Leg Warmers: This ridiculous look first came around in the early '80's. The "Flashdance" effect. Hey...unless you're a dancer that is either, about to go to or is coming from, rehearsal...you shouldn't wear them. Who ever thought that was a good look? Leg warmers over jeans....yikes!

2. Shoulder Pads: Another '80's look that should have stayed in the last millennium. Who needs to look like a linebacker? Not women, that's who. I was at TJ Maxx the other day and was stunned to see jackets with big huge shoulder pads. Why would any woman want to wear something to make her appear larger?

1. High Waist Pants/Jeans: Pants that come up practically to our breasts...not the best look. It's supposed to be slimming. Really? If there is even one hint of a belly it becomes phenomenally pronounced to make one look pregnant. Wow! That's a selling point.

I truly hope these frightening fashion trends go swiftly into history and stay there. Please.

Top 10 Things to Do When Snowed In

10. Clean out the closet or drawers...you know you've got at least one where crap falls out on top of you. You run the risk of being impaled by an umbrella or knocked unconscious by the random football/basketball that has been haphazardly shoved up on the top shelf.

9. Sleep. Let's face it most of us don't get enough of it so why not get it while you can.

8. Watch a classic old movie you would never normally watch. I'm talking the old black & white movies. For example "Bringing Up Baby"....oldie but a goodie with a very young and beautiful Ms. Hepburn.

7. Make a huge steaming cup of chocolaty hot cocoa with heaps of marshmallows (to be sipped slowly while watching the old movie).

6. Play a board game with who ever is around. I highly recommend Scrabble. Hey...even if you're alone you can still play. Be warned....it will lead to talking to yourself out loud.

5. Make your favorite comfort food. For some folks it means baking cookies and for others baking a lasagna. For me....a slow cooked beef stew in the crock pot. Gotta love the crock pot. You just toss various ingredients in the pot, turn it on and walk away. Now THAT is my kind of cooking.

4. Have kids? Well there are lots of things to do, but my favorite is the oldie but goodie of reading with them. Don't have kids? Well, if you're snowed in, you & your honey you could use this quality time to make some kids..or at least practice.

3. Dance. That's right, you heard me. Dance. Find your favorite songs on the ipod or stereo, turn it up as loud as you can and dance like no ones watching. You'll feel great and get some exercise while you're at it.

2. Pick up the phone and call someone you love. We all get so busy. How often have you said during your crazy days..."Oh, I've got to call her?" This is the perfect time to do it and remind them how much you love them. Snow days are natures way of forcing us to slow down and regroup.

1. Read a book! Try something new. Take the time to learn how to download an ebook to your computer. You can buy them at Barnesandnoble.com, Fictionwise.com, Amazon.com or you can go directly to publishers like extasybooks.com or devinedestinies.com. Take the time to learn how...you'll be glad you did!

One more thing....Cornelia just posted this link to me in her comments...the snow day dance...it's fun..>Thanks Cornelia! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT3z3nvv13M

Man Candy Video

Okay....you know all those forwards we're always getting in our emails? To be honest, I often delete anything that looks like a chain letter unless it's REALLY funny. I do, however, love getting funny videos. Well today I got one that I simply HAD to post for all my romance novel loving friends. He can wash my windows anytime.

Blogging Business

I have to say this promotional endeavor for my book series is quite the undertaking. I had NO idea what this whole promo effort would entail! Publishers don't do much promoting, most of the work is done by the authors. As I've been navigating my way through cyberspace, I've had the pleasure of connecting with authors from all over the world and it's pretty cool. There are all kinds of chat groups and blogs to connect with and get the word out about a new author and their work.

This week I connected with another blogger and her site. I am very happy to report that I will be a contributing blogger with Jojo and her crew at Missmakeamovie. It's right up my ally! Lots of great talk about movies and pop culture. I am so excited to be a part of this fantastic group. Here's the link so you can check them out too!!

http://missmakeamovie.blogspot.com/

Another great place is Yahoo Groups. They've got groups for anything and everything you can possibly imagine...and maybe even some you can't ;)

PNR is a great group (their link is here on my site). They've got several groups under their umbrella. Whether you're a reader, author, publisher....if you're into the Paranormal romance genre then they're a great group to hook up with.

As part of my ongoing effort to promote my series, I will be participating in monthly author chats beginning in March. One Friday a month from 7pm-10pm I'll be the Featured Author at PNR's The Haunt! Hooray! I can't wait to connect with readers and other authors even more.

I have a few other blogs and chats that I'm working on. I even started my own group on Yahoo....now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

New Year..New Plan...New Website

When looking to the coming year, I often have mixed feelings. The unknown is scary and exciting all at the same time. I used to make classic New Year's resolutions, lose weight, not east sugar, exercise more...the usual stuff... but not this year. I've decided that since I never stuck to them for more than a month it was pointless. So instead of a resolution I decided to craft a New Year Plan. I am a big believer in visualizing a goal and making it a reality. In fact, when I look at my life the proof of that is everywhere.

Visualization is really about picking a goal and mapping out how you're going to get there. It's not about wishing it into reality. So I asked myself two questions. First, what major goal do I want to accomplish this year? Second, how am I going to do it?

So, what is my goal? Well....I'm keeping that to myself....for now.

How am I going to do it? Well for every month of this year I've got mini-goals. Once I achieve each of those then the major goal will fall into place.

January's Goal was to create and launch a new website. Goal Achieved! I hope you'll check it out.

http://www.novelromance.net

Ask. Believe. Receive. That's what The Secret is all about.

May all of your goals come to fruition in 2009!
